About
Julian King & Associates was established in 2002 to provide consulting services to policy makers in Australia and New Zealand. Over time, our services have evolved into a specialisation in building evaluation and Value for Investment capability, with a global client base spanning every continent except Antarctica. The purpose of this work is to help people use evidence and explicit values to make good decisions, contributing to positive social, cultural, environmental and economic impacts.
Julian King
Julian has over 20 years’ consultancy experience in evaluation and value for money across high, middle and low-income countries. As the originator of the Value for Investment (VfI) approach, he is a sought-after trainer and speaker who works with governments, bilateral and multilateral organisations, consultancies and non-profits. His work focuses on strengthening evaluation capability, systems and cultures through customised training, mentoring, technical advice, and peer review.
Through his PhD research at the University of Melbourne, Julian developed the VfI approach to integrating evaluative and economic thinking to answer value for money questions. He also holds a Master of Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Auckland.
An active contributor to the global evaluation community, Julian is a member of the Kinnect Group, an Associate of Oxford Policy Management, a member of Verian Group’s Centre for Value for Money, an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, a University Fellow at The Northern Institute, and serves on the UK Evaluation Task Force Evaluation & Trial Advice Panel. He is also a member of the evaluation societies of New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Europe.
